Special Issue on Cloud-Edge Computing and Communications


Cloud computing, with the powerful computational and communications functions, is becoming an essential infrastructure in the era of data processing. Some famous enterprises, such as Alibaba, Google, Amazon, Baidu, Tencent and Microsoft, have deployed or are developing their own revolutionized infrastructure of Cloud computing to accelerate the development of industry. At the same time, with the increasing development of computational and communications potential of smart devices, edge computing, as an emerging paradigm of data computing and communications form, is attracting growing attention from both academia and industry. Currently, cloud computing and communication is mainly used to process and exchange large-scale, long-term, global data, which can be used to obtain decision-making information such as the feature, law or rule sets. The edge computing and communication is used to process and exchange small-scale, short-term, local data, which is used to present the real-time situation. To make fully use of the advantages of both cloud and edge computing and communications, is becoming a tendency of data processing and analytics to offer high-quality services for humans.

However, as the future vision of data computing and communications development, cloud-edge computing and communications, incorporating various computing and communication technologies, has many challenging issues to be coped with. For example, how to reasonably process and exchange data to provide high-quality personalized services for human? How to dynamic schedule the computational tasks between the data center and smart devices with less energy consumption and execution time? How to protect users’ privacy and sensitive data in cloud-edge computing and communications? How to realize highly-efficient communication among the employed smart devices?

Therefore, to address the challenging questions of cloud-edge computing and communications, this special issue solicits original technical papers with novel contributions on the cloud-edge computing and communications. Tutorial or survey papers are also welcome. For each submission, the review process will begin immediately once the submission is received and the final decision will be made within 4 months. Authors are strongly encouraged to submit their work once it is ready.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

● Internet-of-Things, and device-to-device communications

● Data computing and communications (e.g. big data, cloud computing)

● Parallel and distributed computing of big data

● Low-power, distributed data processing

● Green cloud-edge computing and communications

● Wireless sensor networks and communications

IEEE Communications Magazine – Network and Service Management Series

IEEE Communications Magazine has been publishing a series related to
Network and Service Management since 2005. The series appears twice
a year in January and July and provides articles on the latest
developments in this well-established and thriving discipline.
Published articles are expected to highlight recent research
achievements in this field and provide insight into theoretical and
practical issues related to the evolution of network and service
management from different perspectives. The series provides a forum
for the publication of both academic and industrial research,
addressing the state of the art, theory and practice in network and
service management. Both original research and review papers are
welcome, in the style expected for IEEE Communications Magazine.
Articles should be of partly tutorial nature, written in a style
comprehensible to readers outside the speciality of Network and
Service Management. This series therefore complements the IEEE
Transactions on Network and Service Management (TNSM)


General areas include but are not limited to:

– Management models, architectures and frameworks
– Network and service provisioning, reliability and quality assurance
– Management functions
– Management standards, technologies and platforms
– Management policies
– Applications, case studies and experiences

The above list is not exhaustive, with submissions related to
interesting ideas broadly related to network and service management

IEEE Communications Magazine is read by tens of thousands of readers
from both academia and industry and has an impact factor which is
amongst the highest in the field. The published papers will also be
available on-line through IEEE Xplore and Communications Magazine
Interactive, the WWW edition of the magazine. Details about IEEE

Please submit you manuscript for review through Manuscript Central

Service Management Series” from the drop down menu on the submission

Submissions must follow the general paper submission guidelines
(<http://www.comsoc.org/commag/paper-submission-guidelines>). Articles
should be tutorial in nature and should be written in a style
comprehensible to readers outside the specialty of the
article. Mathematical equations should not be used. References
should be included only to guide readers to more information on the
topic; the reference list should not include every available
source. A limit of 15 references is recommended. Articles should not
exceed 4500 words. Figures and tables should be limited to a
combined total of six. Submissions violating these rules
significantly will be returned to the authors without going through
the full review process.

All papers must be submitted electronically as PDF files using EDAS at https://edas.info/N24027 . A paper can be either a regular paper (up to 6 pages) or a work-in-progress paper (3 pages). Submitted papers are subject to peer reviews by Technical Program Committee. An author of an accepted paper must register at full rate prior to uploading the camera-ready version. The camera-ready version for an accepted paper cannot exceed 6 pages.


Various workshops will be co-located to complement the technical sessions by providing networking opportunities among vendors, research institutes, government institutes and academia. In addition to technical paper presentations, workshops will feature various activities such as tutorials, demos, exhibitions, business matching and promotion. At present, ICGHIT 2018 will be hosting workshops as follows:
